Dear Jill,
back in the days when you took my emails, you said that you thought
that in most homes, "she gets her say and he gets his say and her say
goes." Thus, do you think Rodney Carrington's "The Man Song" is an
expression of reality for most marriages?
What do others think?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Man Song!
(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)
I don't take no crap from anybody
[else but you]
I wear the pants around here
[when I finish with your laundry]
Coz I'm a guy you don't wanna fight
[When I say "Jump", you say "Yeah right!"]
I'm the man of this house
[until you get home]
(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)
What I say goes around here
[right out the window]
and I don't wanna hear a lot of whining
[so I'll shut up]
The sooner you learn who's Boss around here
[The sooner you can give me my orders, dear]
Coz I'm Head-Honcho around here
[but it's all in my head]
(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)
And I can have sex anytime
[that you want it]
Coz I'm a man who has needs
[but there not that important]
And don't expect any flowers from me
[Coz if I'm not mistaken you prefer jewlrey]
I'm the King of my castle
[when you're not around]
(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)
And I'll drink and watch sports whenever I wanna
[get in trouble]
And I'll come home when I'm good and ready
[to sleep on the couch]
Coz a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
[And I'm gonna do what you tell me to]
Because I'm Top dog around here
[but I've been neutered]
(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)
(You the man!) |

Dear Denise,
I stopped taking your emails because I don't think we speak the same
language and your question about this song (?) only reinforces that
belief. Frankly, I'm not sure what you are driving at here.
|
(Denise) It very much saddens me that you no longer read my emails. I
think we are close on at least some issues and I very, very much
respect your opinions. You were always among the people from whom I
most wanted feedback -- and still do.
This song expresses the idea that the wife is the partner who has
the final say in most marriages. That seems to be a belief that you
hold. That is what I'm driving at.

I'm sorry you are unhappy but my opinion of our private discussions
differs greatly from yours. I don't think we were close on almost any
issue

(Denise) Seeing the threat posed by Islamic extremism and believing
authorities have to take it into consideration regarding searches,
advocating greater public modesty, wanting Roe v. Wade overturned
(although we differ on what we want to see after it), believing in
capitalism as the best economic system, believing in the value of
Bible reading, seeing benefits to the traditional husband breadwinner-
wife homemaker family.
and I couldn't even begin to fathom where most of your thoughts

apparently speak the same language.

I don't recall that discussion. I may have said that...I've said lots
of things in the past that I can't recall at the moment.
Frankly, I only know for a fact what goes on in my own home and that
is my private business. Others will have to speak for themselves if
they so wish.
